Privacy Policy
MyStudyJournal Tutor browser extension and the MyStudyJournal web app · Last updated 24 October 2026
Short version: the extension has no account of its own, collects no analytics, shows no ads and sells nothing. It keeps your settings on your own computer, and sends page text to your own MyStudyJournal journal only when you ask the tutor a question.
What this policy covers
This policy explains how the MyStudyJournal Tutor browser extension ("the extension") and the MyStudyJournal web app ("the journal") handle your information. The extension is a companion to the journal: it reads the page you are studying on, asks the journal's tutor about it, and shows the answer in a sidebar. The journal is the service that stores your courses, assignments, notes and study sessions.
Information the extension stores on your device
The extension uses the browser's own local storage (chrome.storage). It does not write
to your browsing history or to any remote server on its own. It keeps:
- Journal link and pairing key — the two values you paste from your journal's Extension page, so the sidebar knows which journal to talk to and who you are.
- Feature settings — whether Light OPT2.0, DOTMI and THR3mod are switched on, the chosen speed, your daily lesson and course goals, and the running count of what has been finished today.
- Learned page moves — when THR3mod gets stuck and you click a button once to show it the way, the extension remembers that move so it can repeat it on similar pages.
All of this stays in your browser. Uninstalling the extension or clearing its data removes it permanently. If you uninstall, nothing of the above is retained anywhere.
Information sent to your journal
The extension sends data to the journal in two situations only, both started by you. Requests are authenticated with your pairing key.
| When | What is sent |
|---|---|
| You ask the tutor a question | The page's readable text, the question and its answer choices, any text you selected or pasted, the page title and address, and your chosen mode (explain, quiz, plan, review, or step-by-step walkthrough). |
| An answer is saved | The tutor's explanation and the answer it identified, saved as a note in your journal account so you can reread and edit it later. |
The journal passes that text to an AI model to write the explanation. It is used to answer your request and to save the note; it is not used to build an advertising profile, and it is not sold or rented.
What the extension does not do
- No advertising, no ad networks, no third-party trackers or analytics scripts.
- No selling, renting or sharing of your data with data brokers.
- No keylogging, no reading of passwords, banking pages or form fields you have not asked about, and no collection of anything while you are not using the tutor.
- No sending of page content anywhere except the journal you paired it with.
- No automated clicking or filling unless you switch on THR3mod or DOTMI, or press Help me find it. When those are off, the extension only reads the page and points.
Permissions and why they exist
| storage | Remember your settings, pairing key and learned page moves locally. |
| sidePanel | Show the tutor beside the page you are studying, so the question stays in view. |
| scripting | Read the current tab and draw the pointer or ring on the answer when you ask for help. |
| Site access | Coursework lives on your school's site, and school portals use many different addresses, so the extension must work on the page you choose to study on. It reads only when you use it. |
The journal's own data
Your journal is a separate account you created. It stores your profile, courses, assignments, study sessions, notes and pairing keys, and only you can see your own records. To use the extension you must have a journal account, and the journal's security controls (sign-in, row-level access rules, deletion) apply to everything the extension sends.
Retention and deletion
- Notes and study data in the journal are kept until you delete them. You can delete a note, a session or an entire course at any time from the journal.
- Pairing keys can be revoked from the journal's Extension page at any time; a revoked key immediately stops working.
- Local extension data is removed when you uninstall the extension or clear its storage in your browser.
- Account deletion removes your journal records. Contact the developer using the support details on the extension's Chrome Web Store listing to request deletion of your account and all associated data.
Security
All traffic between the extension and the journal uses encrypted HTTPS. Your pairing key is a credential: anyone who has it can reach your journal through the extension, so keep it private and revoke any key you think has been exposed. No system is perfectly secure, but the extension deliberately holds as little as possible — it keeps no copy of your page content after a request is answered.
Children
The journal and the extension are intended for students old enough to hold their own account under the rules of their school and their country, and are not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact the developer so it can be removed.
Changes to this policy
If the extension's data handling changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change. Material changes will also be described in the extension's release notes before they take effect.
Contact
Questions about this policy, or a request to access or delete your data, can be sent through the support contact listed on the extension's Chrome Web Store listing. Please include the email address on your journal account so the right records can be found.
